Began teaching when I was in college. Had a good rapport with all my students. Always tried to teach them something they can use now(like a cool beat or fill), this way they get enthusiastic and stay with it. My wife talked me into teaching again. We were at the recording studio one day but had no bass player, but my friends son was there, so I taught him the basics in 10 minutes and we recorded right after. Read More

I'm relatively new to the teaching life, but I love it regardless. I started in September of 2018 with one student who I taught throughout the semester, and seeing him grow throughout the months was satisfying unlike anything else I've experienced. I also sang professionally for St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Houston for three years. At about this time I also began teaching myself piano, and have continued my growth on the instrument to this day. I attended the University of Houston initially as a Vocal performance major with a music scholarship but had become burnt out from the rigors of professional classical music training and performance. If you are not interested in that part of music, I will just sneak it in as necessary. Having had so much experience with so many apposing methods, I myself have learned that there are as many different types of learners as there are types of people, so it is best to let the student show you what works for them. I never have to push any students to practice because my method surrounds the students goals and abilities that they actually want to achieve. Read More

I emphasize physical relaxation and efficient movement to help students play comfortably and master technical passages. Integrating the principles of moving the wrist, arm, and elbow fluidly ahead of the hand to produce even tone and clear voicing, has helped my students overcome technical challenges with greater ease. I also focus on making musical phrasing and interpretive nuance, by exploring rubato, which avoids making music sound mechanical but as if speaking naturally. Read More
