Also, a lot of kids are busy at school and don't have much time for practice. I like to see where the student is at level wise and take it from there. Example : if the student has never played before, we will start with how to hold the sticks. If there at level three but haven't touched 16th note triplets and go from there. For beginning students who are children, I typically prefer the Faber Piano Adventure Series. Written by a couple who are educated both in music as well as child development, I believe that this is a great mix of developmentally appropriate pacing and fun.
