Hi, my name is Caroline, and I began playing at the age of 3, formal training at age 5, studying with professional pianists all the way through college. I am classically trained, and studied classical piano as well as Jazz in college and beyond. I enjoy learning and teaching all types of music, including composition and improvisation. Different students have different levels of perception or assimilation. This i establish before i even start the introductory class proper. For beginners, which is mainly what I've taught so far, I try and see what their goals are and teach them accordingly. Both students I've taught have had entirely different goals, one just trying to learn drumset and the other wanting to learn a song for his talent show. I strongly believe is positive reinforcement methods. I will work with each student pending on the learning style they need and type of music they are interested in. Also, I try to engage and get the student excited about what they are learning. This is important to progress and keeping them interested in what they do. In relation to teaching any subject area, I strongly believe that students should be taught the basics or fundamentals, and then guided and encouraged to apply and share concepts learned to various scenarios related to the subject area. I work with Bastien, Alfred, and Nikolaev's methods. I also like to use different ways of teaching for different studends as one might not be as fun and satisfactory to everyone. I love giving my students the option to expess themselves and approach them with the methods they enjoy and desire. I use new and dynamic ways to teach using tech such as tablets and applications involving music if the student finds it entertaining.  Read More
