I'm an experienced and passionate teacher. I graduated from Northwestern University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and University of Southampton in the UK in 2010 with a Master of Music, Vocal Performance. I have performed throughout Europe and the US in many capacities, and in addition to my training in classical voice and musical theatre, I'm also an accomplished recording artist. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Music for Little Mozart, Alfred Premier Piano Course, or Faber Piano Adventures. Once the student has progressed to have grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for them. For adults, I try to find out what they are interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun. Whether it was just a few notes or a very skillful melody. I would listen to them with interest myself. When I become a piano teacher, I had the compassion and patience to teach my students. Listening and correcting techniques from the starting position to the correct use of their fingers then gradually becoming proficient. The way I teach is about showing the student "the dance" of drums. The exercises and rudiments they practice are the movements in a dance. For example, with Punk drums the movements need to be mastered and played fast so the student will have to practice to get the movements up to speed instead of focusing on the beat. With Pop drums the movements need to be comfortable but precise as the student learns the importance of a metronome and how to relate to it by thinking of it as a member of the band. Read More

I have enjoyed teaching both private and group music classes for over 15 years. I teach piano and violin . I teach a range of music styles from classical to folk to Mariachi Music. I received my degree from Loyola Marymount University. I have been a member of the Junior Philharmonic, Orchestra of California, Loyola Marymount University Orchestra and Beach Cities Symphony. I currently co-conduct the youth group Mariachi Alma Juvenil. I really enjoyed teaching students and seeing them progress from a novice to an intermediate to an advanced student. Read More

I love teaching because it teaches me more than I can ever learn from a piece of music. Seeing my student grow as a musician and as his/her own individual character/personality. I've taught students as young as 3 to college graduates who simply want to get some pieces under their fingers. I've also taught masterclasses to my mom's students and to students at UCLA, and I find that all of us connect in some way musically as we all love and cherish the same composers whose music we still play today. Since I mainly work with teenagers and adults, I like to start with Alfred's Adult's Piano Courses. I like to find music that the student is interested in and to put together solo repertoire that they enjoy playing. This can be anything from classical music to the Beatles, Jazz Standards or pop tunes. I also encourage my students to write, to record themselves and play for others. If they are aspiring songwriters, we work on their material, as well as learning songs by their favourite musicians and specific songwriting exercises, which include rhythm, melody, harmony and lyrics.
