I believe that music should be a satisfying endeavor. Learning music should be a great balance of having fun in the moment, and the joy of seeing oneself grow and progress as an artist over time. I meet each and every student at their own level, wherever that may be, and help them grow. I like to talk to each student or parent about their goals in music with the understanding that many have very different goals. Read More

I thoroughly enjoy customizing each student's lesson according to their learning ability and make sure they excel and have fun. I utilize most of the time the Alfred Piano method both for school age and adults. When I feel the student is ready I supplement quite a lot with the Hanon exercises,Czerny and the Master Theory workbook(this works very well with the student who also desires to learn to play by ear as well.) For repertoire I emphasize classical pieces and also help the student with pop and holiday pieces;i.e- Schumann's Album for the Young, Beginning Bach minuets,Bach and Clementi sonatinas, etc. Read More

There is nothing more rewarding for me than the "lightbulb" moments. To see a student light up with excitement over the satisfaction of knowing he or she has been able to achieve or conquer a concept or a piece of music is so awesome for me. I love helping students travel the process of going from point A to Z. I love the challenge of inspiring students through the difficult times when it would be easier to just give up and quit. I use a variety of methods, custom-fit for each student individually. I teach Classical and church piano, along with sightreading, ear training, performance techniques, music theory, and other techniques specially designed to give my students the most well-rounded learning experience possible. I tend to prefer Piano Adventures for younger students and teens, and incorporate use of the corresponding app whenever possible. I also focus on helping students learn to play by ear, since I believe this is the quickest way to feel a mastery over the instrument! Read More

Ever since I was a child I had wanted to be a teacher. When I got to Central Piedmont Community College I focused on music education because I knew I wanted to teach music theory in college. After transferring to Wingate University I began studying choral music education because I was fascinated byhow the voice works and blends with other voices in a choir situation. I have had the opportunity to study rock bass, jazz bass, classical guitar, piano, and even private voice lessons from private lessons all the way up through college level lessons and these lessons have given me such a drive and passion for not only music, but music education. I started teaching in college and started with some friends that wanted to learn how to play the piano and sing. After graduation I went and taught in Chicago for a few years and Greenville SC where I was the music teacher in both schools. I am currently teaching two students piano and two students the dulcimer. I have taught children as young as 3 years old and as old as 35 years old. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my time as an undergraduate. As a freshman in my music education program, I volunteered to be the music director and conduct the orchestra for a production of The Addams Family Musical. The show was put on by a student organization on campus. I taught all of the actors their music. Fast forward two years later. I transferred to Shawnee State University to study musical theatre.
