We gradually increase the tempo over the next several weeks. Pieces like that will be rehearsed at the end of each lesson after working through a few passages in Alfreds book. At the beginning, I ask my adults what music theyre interested in learning. I like to gear my warmup exercises and cool down exercises towards that style and I always put aside a few minutes at the end to work on whatever music they desire. Read More

I thoroughly enjoy customizing each student's lesson according to their learning ability and make sure they excel and have fun. I utilize most of the time the Alfred Piano method both for school age and adults. When I feel the student is ready I supplement quite a lot with the Hanon exercises,Czerny and the Master Theory workbook(this works very well with the student who also desires to learn to play by ear as well.) Piano students will begin learning to read basic music notation, and then begin the piano adventures book as well as "The Complete Book of Scales, Chords, Arpeggios, and Cadences". Once 2 method books have been completed, simple repertoire from Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart will be introduced to the student in order to expand their knowledge into the wonderful world of classical music that we know. In the past, I have used several different band methods and generally like to first use the book that the students' school district is using. As the student becomes more accomplished, I supplement with method books and solo literature from the repertoire of the individual instrument. For the younger student, additionally, I like to work with improvising and making up his/her own songs, so that they enjoy and develop a sense of accomplishment in composing their own music. If a student is not progressing i would give him great advice and praise to get him motivated to practice and watch him improve as well.
