Lessons should be positive experiences where students are nurtured and encouraged so that they look forward to their lessons. I like students to keep a practice notebook which we fill out during the lesson. Rather than being required to practice for a set number of minutes per day, we instead keep track of how many times an exercise or song is practiced. Stickers are given for a good practice week and the burden of supervising practice by the parents is greatly eased. Read More

I care about impacting the city of Cincinnati through music. I grew up in Florence Kentucky and have had amazing opportunities to travel internationally and perform thanks to music. I am passionate about sharing my knowledge and experiences with my students. I am a very active professional singing with the Cincinnati Opera, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the Vocal Arts Ensemble, Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, and North American New Opera Workshop. I love the balance of a busy teaching and performace schdule! Read More

Based on my first meeting get acquainted sessions with my students, I decide what approach to take with each person. As everyone is different, I adapt my teaching to their particular personality and needs. I have a four (4) tiered approach to my lessons - there is technique development, theory, ear-training and improvisation through learning chord sets and songs in every key PLUS, of course, the playing of music. I have a very comprehensive library where a student can music of any style to supplement his or her foundational music development. Read More

I began teaching lessons over 15 years ago, and have been teaching in private and my home studios since that time. I emphasize consistent practice and repetition for all students, and I like to understand what music goals my students have - whether it is for private enjoyment or public performance, I do encourage everyone to push their boundaries and try something new on a regular basis. I found that while learning music myself, mixing classical with different music genres made practice both more fun, motivating, and challenging, and helped solidify various techniques that I retained for life. I move at a very quick pace, but I have my students set their own goals. While I will select the literature for the student, I want them to feel successful when they are working with me. I want students to be confident and successful, so I will do anything in my power to help them learn good technique and practice habits. Teaching students has been a rewarding experience for me, and I believe that I can make a difference in their lives.< When students are practicing, I want them to practice scales for instruments, and vocal warmups for voice before starting on the assigned work for the next lesson. I have successfully incorporated any and all of the major teaching systems. If your desire is to check off the boxes and progress through a method I am very familiar with assisting students to reach these goals. I will craft your lessons to suit each person. I match learning style and musical style. I love to teach practical music theory, song writing and reading music. I can set up performance opportunities should student desire. Read More

My preferred methodology uses the Alfred series books, as well as the Faber Piano Adventure series as supplemental material. I use a combination of note names and intervals to teach reading skills. I also like to incorporate theory into every lesson. Once we have the basics down, I like the student to tell me what he/she would enjoy playing, and I'll do my best to incorporate that, or something similar to that.  Also, I prefer that the student have access to a real piano rather than a keyboard. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
