Music is a great art form to express emotion and passion for something we cannot say in words. In church, I teach the choir to express their feelings of joyfulness when praising God. Outside church, I've taught privately in piano and voice for twelve years, five with Musika. I always encourge my students to practice with patience daily for 15-20 minutes in order to successfully progress. Most importantly, they must have fun, smile and play/sing with excitement. Read More

As a teacher I aspire to challenge and engage all of my students in a safe, supportive, and compassionate learning environment. With my energetic, sensitive, and enthusiastic demeanor, I seek to motivate and engage my classroom in teaching methods that reflect the unique and individual needs of each student. As a life longer, I also yearn to consistently grow and evolve as an educator, by embracing new techniques and perspectives. Read More

I truly love teaching; there are few pleasures greater than seeing students progress. I encourage them to discover how beautiful and fun music is, and help them to find and develop their own areas of interest and talent. Born in Japan of a mother who started me on classical voice and piano in my early childhood, I went on to play flute and the Japanese koto and shamisen, and to compose and sing my own songs. Hi! I am a voice and piano teacher. I am originally from CA and moved to NY to complete my degree in music education at Hofstra University. After I graduated, I stayed to complete my masters degree at Teachers College, Columbia University. My primary instrument is voice, secondary piano. I sing with the Astoria Symphonic Choir and occasionally perform new music. Read More

For beginning students I typically use Piano Adventures by Faber and Faber. This lesson series helps to ensure each student gets a well rounded music education. For those with previous experience, I will get to know where they're at in their knowledge and ability as well as which music interests them, and we go from there. I encourage all my students to explore genres/songs that appeal to them since that's what makes music fun! Read More

My first goal as a music instructor is to help my students find the excitement and passion for making music. I personally tailor each of my lesson plans to the student's interests and goals, and I truly believe that a love for making music is the necessary bedrock for a life full of music and a desire to practice and hone skills. I just graduated NYU with an MFA in Musical Theatre Composition. Read More

I make sure my students have a strong foundation, which means I start with classical training. I work on the basics such as posture, articulation, breath-support, vowel shapes, and rhythm. Once they have a strong basis, I move to modern and musical theatre if they desire it. For a student who is going the strictly classical route, I will teach them IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) to help them with pronunciations in foreign languages when singing. Read More
