I began studying music at age 10.  By twelve years old I began serious study and practice on the piano.  By 15 I was playing weekly church services on both organ and piano.  I attended both Rutgers College and Berklee School of Music in Boston, where I continued my studies in piano, jazz composition and arranging, voice and performance. I teach speech skills acquisition from a kinesthetic and descriptive basis rather than an arbitrary linguistic standard, in order to respect the individual and focus on what is fundamentally useful to the artistic process— “the ability to adapt”. My role is to add to a student's repertoire of skills, not to diminish the student's sense of what is appropriate or possible on stage. By explicitly addressing both the objective facts of vocal production and the subjective nature of vocal experience in my teaching, I help the students to free themselves to learn in a way that suits the individual situation. You can learn so much about a student in a 30 minute trial lesson! If a new student is not a total beginner, I will ask them to play their favorite song (or one of their favorites if they have trouble choosing just one). After their performance, I ask them what they liked about how they played. Its important for students to always be aware of what they do well. If they arent able to see their strengths on their own then I share with them what I think their strengths are and encourage them to keep that up. Read More

I have had groups who become champions in multiple competitions, I have had students who became queens of jazz vocal competitions, I have students who eventually became professional musicians and vocal artists, and I coach too while they are in a recording studio especially with first timers.
