For my beginning students who are children, I like to start with Alfred's Music books based on the instrument they choose. They are specific, yet easy for kids to follow along with, and encourage practicing by making each song fun. For adults, we journey into what the student is interested in or inspired by, and then I guide my instruction accordingly to keep our lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I was my own first student. I began teaching myself how to play the piano over 10 years ago. Throughout this process I learned how to approach some typically confusing topics in much more digestible ways. A benefit to starting out as a self taught musician is that I had to learn how to make sense of things myself rather than memorizing information that a teacher fed me. A main focus of mine as a teacher is encouraging regular practice routines where the student can solidify the information we discuss in our lessons as well as uncover new questions they may have about the subject. My method is definitively circumstantial to the student. If the student is hoping to perform casually, then we advance at a casual pace. If the student is hoping to perform competitively, we go much faster. Either way, I hope to transfer the art into a lens that grabs the student's heart and attention, since propelling the art - regardless of life circumstance - is my primary ambition. Read More

My students thrive on goal setting. From the very first lesson, we work together to set clear, meaningful objectives that guide our learning journey. We revisit these goals regularly, tracking progress and adjusting as needed to keep students motivated and on track. I tailor my approach to each individual, recognizing that every student learns differently. Accomplishments, whether big breakthroughs or small wins, are celebrated, as each is a step toward the overall goal and a reason to feel proud. Read More

I strive to develop a customized learning approach for each of my students, depending on their needs and goals. I implement a combination of the Faber method, Alfred method, and compilations of works by talented piano pedagogs such as Keith Snell, Martha Ashleigh, Ingrid Jacobson Clarfield, Melody Bober, and Julie McIntosh Johnson. I have found that by using a combination of these resources I am able to focus on all eras of music history and style, as well as cover all bases of theory fundamentals. Read More
