I'm relatively new to the teaching life, but I love it regardless. I started in September of 2018 with one student who I taught throughout the semester, and seeing him grow throughout the months was satisfying unlike anything else I've experienced. I like to get an idea from the student and the parent what their expectations are for music lessons. From there, the student and I come up with musical goals to accomplish for that year. We create a practice schedule based on the student's school and extracurricular activities and try to follow that schedule as much as possible. I also like to incorporate other styles of music such as popular Broadway pieces and Contemporary pieces into the student's repertoire so that they can have greater diversity in their piano playing or singing. For beginning students (children or adults) I begin with an introduction to the major scale and implement it into our vocal warm-ups. Once the student has developed and progressed over certain aspects I will introduce repertoire that will be learned and performed at the end. I often create my own custom lesson plans because every student is different and requires certain attention. I've recently moved to the Bryan/College Station area to work at Texas AM as part of their Center for Teaching Excellence. I also play piano at Covenant Presbyterian Church! I received my PhD in Fine Arts from Texas Tech in 2018, having studied there with Dr. William Westney, performing recitals, accompanying instrumentalists and vocalists, teaching group classes and private lessons, as well as serving as pianist at multiple churches.
