Despite having had classical piano training via Trinity College of Music and the Royal Schools of Music at an early age, I have always appreciated music of every genre. So as a child I took the responsibility of learning to play other styles on my own. It quickly became obvious not only to me but to my fellow classical students that I had a huge advantage over all the other students in the real music world, because I could appeal to a much wider audience. I love music, and I love seeing my students grow through their own musical success! We start our first lessons with a foundation of basic musical ideas, which focus on connecting the keyboard to the written notes. In addition to developing a good ear, I believe that a strong music reading foundation is key to my students' success. We set weekly and monthly goals, and encourage students to try something new each lesson. Read More

I have been playing the piano almost all my life. The passion I have for music of all kinds is contagious. My parents were opera singers, I grew up in a Latin American setting, and I performed with a symphony orchestra at the age of 13. I have taught piano to students of all levels and ages. I love to share with my students the marvels that are found in music, from the composers to their individual styles, to enjoying improvisation and multi-piano/hands arrangements. Read More

Throughout the process, I also integrate tidbits of music theory and history to give the student a more well-rounded experience. As for guitar and piano, I normally take a more custom approach to teaching that tends to not revolve around any specific method book. However, I typically teach beginning pianists and guitarists how to read through and play simple pieces of music so that they understand the fundamentals before moving on to a mix of songs or pieces that I select and songs or pieces that the student wishes to play so as to keep things fresh and exciting. My joy for teaching came simply from teaching friends and family how to play, and quickly seeing them grow and discover themselves as a musician. My musical style began with rock n roll, and has adopted a little bit of everything over the years, from jazz to folk and electronic, and everything in between. I learned music by ear, and when I got to a point where I felt I had my own style, I learned music theory to fill in the gaps and become more well rounded. Read More

Setting up goals to students at the beginning is a way to keep them motivated during lessons, by breaking down their goals into smaller pieces, It becomes more achievable for the students, I follow up a lesson plan depending on the students knowledge and level, everybody is different and for that I always incorporate lessons that goes with the kind of music they inspire yo play, I will bring composition activities, ear training activities and music theory activities too, there's so much to cover but these lessons are important because they will bring confidence and ability to make their interpretations when students want to learn a song, Read More

I like to select a basic book on fundamentals supplemented with blues, popular, or jazz or seasonal music to Motivate the student. There will be some attention to scales and how chords are built along with other theory as it applies to the pieces they are studying. Some attention is required due to the cycle of fifths and why some keys are selected more than others. I expect the student to review our lesson no less that 4 times a week and not all at once just before the next lesson. Read More
