Since beginning my Master's Degree at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, I am the TA for the Saxophone Department and I currently have 8 students (Freshman and Sophomore Undergraduates). I have proudly produced three students who are now independent music thinkers in their own rights. My first student was my mother, ironically, as she was the one who brought me to music. Now, she is a capable piano player whose repertoire ranges from Mozart to Chopin. She works harder on the piano than anyone I have met. My second student was a colleague at NJIT. I normally use the Standard of Excellence method books for most of my students; however, I am open minded to adjusting to each individual student's musical needs, whether it be Jazz, Classical, or whatever style music the student is focusing on. For Drummers, I prefer the Haskell Harr Method, or the Buddy Rich Method Book, as well as the Breeze Easy Method Book. I started teaching when I was in college just a few private lessons here and there, which eventually landed my first job at a private school teaching clarinet. I have had students from 5th-9th grade primary at this studio with skill levels ranging from complete beginner to pre-college advanced. For my beginning students, I generally start with the book their school teacher wants them to use, or I have students use the Yamaha book 1. If the student begins in middle school or high school, I like to use the Rubank books. I believe that working on solo repertoire is an important part of learning and performing, so I begin my students on solo repertoire as soon as possible. I choose solo works that are in the ability of the student, yet offer enough of a challenge to help the student learn and grow. Read More

For beginning students, I typically will start them on a method book such as The Yamaha series, and start them on the basic pedagogy of the clarinet and saxophone,ie; putting the instrument together, putting the reed on the mouthpiece, setting the embouchure, etc. I will emphasize the importance of practicing; beginners, 5 times a week for 20 minutes, so they can succeed in learning their instrument. For Intermediate students, in Middle and High School for example, I will include the reportoire they are playing in their school performing groups, so they can excel in those. Read More

Hello everyone! I am a professional saxophonist who graduated with a Bachelors degree in saxophone performance from Peabody Conservatory of Music in 2022. I am currently working towards my master's in saxophone performance at the Hartt School of Music, so I am relatively new to the greater Hartford area.
