My approach to teaching focuses on the importance of fundamental exercises. Along with this, I work with the student to create a dialogue that reinforces their interest in lessons. We apply these techniques directly to music-making in order to create a fun, satisfying, and rewarding experience. I have a passion for making music and I love to share that with others. When teaching new students, I believe it is important to establish that music-making is supposed to be a gratifying experience, with communication being a key factor: if a student doesn't understand something or needs further explanation, I am more than happy to work with that student so that they feel confident moving forward. In March 2011, I was the guest artist at the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts Spring Jazz Festival in Houston, TX.
