At the first lesson, I evaluate what the student wants to get out of the lessons, what sparks their interests in music, and skill level. I have been teaching music for 8 years now. My experience includes wind ensembles, jazz orchestras, jazz combos, and chamber groups. I currently hold a position at Chabot Community as the Low Brass Instructor and Jazz Trombone Instructor. I teach all ages ranging from elementary school all the way up to the collegiate level. I currently work for notable organizations such as the Stanford Jazz Workshop where I mentor various junior high to high school aged students who are part of an all-star auction based ensemble. For three years I was a camp counselor in the La Honda Music Camp (Hayward, CA). As a counselor, I looked after 10-12 middle school-aged girls, oversaw brass sectionals, coached trombone, and assisted in the junior wind ensemble. In high school I used to coach my classmates in the trombone section. In my grad school years I began to teach beginning piano and trombone. My hope when teaching music is that the kids have a lot of fun learning their instrument, so I always encourage them to learn songs they'd like to sing/play along to. Read More
