For beginners I like to start with Essential Elements 2000, although this book isn't specifically written with trumpet in mind, I do I want to get students making music as soon as possible and EE 2000 is a great start. As students advance I use some of the standard trumpet method books such as - Clarke Technical Studies, Arbans Complete Method for Trumpet, I also write out exercises that can't be found in books but feel will help the student progress. Admittedly limited, my teaching experience started when I was in High School when I became the marching Band's trumpet section leader. I really enjoyed sharing my knowledge and experience with otherswatching people grow in their musicianship is an incredible reward for me and I'd love to experience it more in my life! For the younger beginning students, I usually start with Alfred's Beginning Piano Series. Once the student has a grasp of the fundementals, I will begin introducing major and minor scales as well as solo repertoire. For my adult students I will see their level of ability and musical interests, find appropriate material based on their taste and formulate the lesson to include fun stuff as well as build proper mechanics.  For my horn lessons depending on the skill level I being with Essential Elements or the Arban book and build from there incorporating solos of the greats, and songs that they want to learn to play. I always start with a warm up, followed by scale studies. From there we move to etudes, and solos or concerti, and end with excerpts from books like the Mueller technical study or Arban book. For more advanced students and jazz players, I like to start with a warm up, scale study, learn tunes and the blues, big band charts, and end with listening and transcriptions. As a Jazz Studies major at Cal State Northridge (CSUN), I placed in the college's Jazz "A" Band, which won 1st Place in its division at the Next Generation Monterery Jazz Festival. During my time at CSUN, I also began to write and record music for jazz big band. I bring a wealth of teaching experience to my students, including teaching students of different ages at many different levels. I have taught private students at the beginning, intermediate, and college level as well as coached brass students at several middle schools and high schools throughout southern California, and I currently maintain a private teaching studio.
