For years 1 & 2, we will go through the "red" and "blue" books (Standard of Excellence) together, in order to formulate the right habits with embouchure, breathing, posture, and learning to read and play the correct notes. Once some headway has been made, we can begin "Arban's" for technical studies, Bai Lin's "Lip Flexibilities" for advance warm up and excersies, and Rochut's "Melodious Etudes" for solo material. For beginners, I like to start with the Standard of Excellence book 1, and intermediate students with book 2. The trombone is such a versatile instrument that there are tons of different styles of playing to practice. Depending on the student's level I will build curriculum for them. We will also play duets together, because it's very important to learn how to play well with others. Scales, lip slurs, and other exercises will be implemented as well. Read More
