To me, nothing is more rewarding than seeing my students' passion for music arise during, and after lessons. For this is the way i believe important progression happens, when the student is passionate about the subject matter and eager to explore and most importantly enjoying it in the process. I always try to set an attainable goal for each lesson, its through these accomplishments that encourages a student to keep progressing and learning more about the instrument and music. Read More

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to look at my profile. A little about my self, I just recently graduated from the Hartt School of Music with a Masters in Trombone Performance, where I performed various kinds of music with many different ensembles, from the 20/20 chamber ensemble, to the Symphony Orchestra, to the "Foot in the Door" new music ensemble. I moved to the Boston area upon graduation and I have set up my studio in Quincy, MA. Read More

I create my own lesson plans specific to the students need and goals. There are core elements to my teaching that are constantly enforced, including my level of importance placed on rhythm and the aural tradition of music. Singing melodies, clapping rhythms and drum parts. Listening to music and talking and a gentle musical analysis of what we are hearing. I believe that everyone is first a person then a musician and then an instrumentalist. Read More

In college, I discovered my interest in dancing, other forms of art, psychology, philosophy, and more. Also, I had equated greatness in music with having a principal position in a high level western classical orchestra. This is not to denigrate western classical music, however, I began to see a need and value for the study of music making from all cultures- world music or ethnomusicology. I also began considering other ways of contributing to music and the world, such as through music therapy. Read More

Funnily enough, my first private lesson student was actually a peer while I was in high school who wanted some tips and tricks. I also maintained a small lesson studio consisting throughout my time at the University of Iowa. Those lessons were driven heavily by the interests of my students. I had one student trying to prepare for a collegiate music major audition, I had one with interest in becoming a composer, and a more casual student whose ultimate goal was to gain enough skills to lead music in church worship services. I cater lessons to YOUR needs and goals. I am not invested in there being a "right" technique of any kind. Together we will create a custom approach so that you will love the experience of playing the music you love. I will share fun and efficient ways to practice so that you get immediate results. If desired, I also guarantee you will be playing a blues and improvising within a maximum of 6 weeks as long as you practice at least 10 minutes, three times a week. You will have the option of playing along with recordings minus your part so that you can experience the joy of ensemble playing early on in the safety of your own home. I love creating small ensemble groups of students at similar levels and arranging concerts at regular intervals. Read More
