For beginners, I personally recommend the Essential Elements Book. If you are barely starting on an instrument, make sure you get book 1. Aside from the fact that I was taught with that book when I was in middle school, I taught with that particular method book to my beginners in the 2021-2022 school year. For intermediate students such as older middle school students, Essential Elements Books 2 and 3 would be my personal recommendation. Read More

I tailor my instruction to the needs and wants of the student because I am a strong believer that if the student is interested, they will stay excited about their instrument and be motivated to develop their skill. Goals are set for each student. It is a positive learning environment. I am a good motivator and the techniques used depend on the age of the student as different things motivate the various age levels. Read More

I began teaching trumpet when I was a high school student. My students were middle school aged peers within my school district that needed additional guidance. While in college, I maintained two dozen or so students within my own private studio. Some of these students were non-music majors that were given to me by my own voice professor. My primary instrument is the human voice. A complicated yet versatile instrument that is unique in every person, and as such should be treated with specific pedagogical methods that best suit a student's age, skill level, and learning style. I absolutely love teaching!I see myself as being a gentle, yet firm instructor. I like to get to know my students and understand their goals. I love to ask my students questions. I am a very patient person and teacher. I listen to the students thoughts and concerns; I listen to what the student is telling me while they play. I will challenge my students, and push them to reach further, while not being inconsiderate of their happiness. Read More

During the first lesson, I get to know the student, find out their interests and determine which course will be the best start. The most important thing for all students is to keep the lessons engaging and fun. Piano: For younger beginning students, I typically start with the Alfred Basic Piano Library. Older beginners start with Alfred's All In One Piano Course. For adults, I find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly. Read More
