I'm a quietly passionate instructor motivated by my love of music and my students. In 2016, I graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Arts in English, with a Minor in Music. As an undergrad, I often found my love of music creeping into my major coursework-- including my thesis! I've loved practicing and performing for over a decade (which is also more than half of my life!). From receiving my very first "Band Student of the Month" award in the fifth grade to helping soon-to-be-fifth graders achieve that goal themselves, I cannot express how much I love this instrument and the opportunities it has provided. I have been playing trumpet since the summer of 2006 and have been in love with the art form ever since. I am also an advocate for historic music performance practice and an avid avant-garde performer. I hold degrees from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts high school program and the Eastman School of Music. Even though I teach a wide array of musical stiles, every lesson will include the fundamentals and instrumental approach. Posture and Breathing are critical to emphasize every time we pick up our instrument. No matter what we are performing, this always applies and will be addressed as need be. MOST IMPORTANTLY, if my students and I are not smiling and having fun, then I'm doing something wrong! I began teaching students during my undergraduate degree. I've taught over 50 students, grades ranging from 6-12, throughout my undergrad degree. My goal in the music profession is to become a trumpet professor at the collegiate level and have my own trumpet studio. In my lessons, I focus on all aspects of your trumpet skills: technique, musicality, sight reading, and tone to name a few.
