I can teach many instruments that I have taught myself how to play well and efficiently. I play in many bands and I am always learning new styles of music. My best instruments are Piano, Bass, Drums, Ukulele, Guitar, Percussion, Harmonica, Recorder, Tin Whistle, Mandolin and also Trumpet. My secondary instruments are everything else. I can fool around on Violin, Cello, Banjo and Trombone as an amateur. I could blow into a Saxophone, Flute, Clarinet, French Horn and probably anything else I can get my hands on, but I would not feel comfortable teaching them yet because I don't have enough time in the world to learn them and figure out how to play them myself and get as good as I can on those instruments. As far as my style of teaching, I would use the book, Accent on Achievement as I mentioned earlier as a base. Practicing every day for at least 30 minutes is a must not only from the book but by just playing long tones, playing major scales which I will also go over and possibly some songs to keep the student interested in his instrument. Also try to understand what type of style the student is leaning on whether it be Jazz, blues, classical or pop and we can try to develop the student to fit that style. Read More

For beginning students, I usually work with Hal Leonard's essential elements as well as use the piano as a tool for them to hear the pitches they are playing. Once the fundamentals are grasped we can work on introductory solo repertoire. For children I'd like to make this a bit more fun as well, introducing some easy tunes they will be familiar with or excited to play. (for example, Jason Derulo's song "Trumpets") For adults, I think its best to find out what their interests are and we can target what to work on from there. Read More

My approach to teaching is a logical one. The student needs to learn to "crawl', and then to 'walk" and then to run. With an organized succession of excersizes, the student can learn the basics of the instrument which will lead to the ability to play more fun songs.That is the goal of learning the instrument; to be able to eventually play some fun music!!
