I'm a young teacher who loves working with students and instilling my passion of music in them. I have been involved in music since the age of 5, and received my Bachelors of Music Education degree from Western Carolina University in 2018. Through my experiences there, I was able to perform across the state of North Carolina, as well as tours in South Carolina, Florida, and take part in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2014. For younger students who are a member of a school band or choir, I will spend a good portion of the time working out of whichever method book and other materials they use for class, in order to make the content in congruence with their other instruction. However, method books and beginner level ensemble repertoire only go so far because they are written to appeal to every instrument, not just one. Read More

It’s always great to see improvement in a student nothing is more rewarding than that. I strive to have a relaxed teaching environment and persona for the student which makes the work more productive on both levels so that the student feels comfortable in the learning environment. I also would recommend an amount of practice that is recommended for any student that is willing to put in the work for what ever they are trying to achieve be it professional or amateur playing level. I drill ear training, and will have the student memorize simple songs to beginning not only increasing their repertoire, but a fun way of practicing scales. Depending on the level, there are different books that are appropriate, however I focus on the fundamentals with each student and add on. Read More

For beginner and even some intermediate students I like the Sigmund Hering Method. I also love Embouchure Builder by Lowell Little. For high school players I like to introduce more solo material and advanced method books including The Claude Gordon Systematic Approach and books by Charles Colin, Earl Irons and Herbert Clarke. While i believe there are certain basic of play the trumpet that are accepted worldwide i do not believe there is only one correct method and encourage my students to incorporate several methods to create their own personal sound. I am percussionist, composer and educator, Larry Q. Draughn Jr. I've been "banging on stuff" and trying to understand rhythm for most of my life. The first 16 years of my journey were self taught and the past 13 have been supplemented with formalized training. I've shared the stage with greats like Jimmy Heath, Branford Marsalis, Joey Calderazzo, and Christian McBride to name a few. My gift has and is taking me all around the world. Read More

For students of all ages and skill sets I first like to establish a personalized daily routine of fundamental exercises such as long tones, lip slurs, tone production and articulation if not already had. I use the Bill Adam approach to teaching my establishing a strong core understanding and playing of the instrument. Then working exercises out of the Arbans book, charlier etudes, and Clarke studies to better enhance performance ability. Read More
