I started teaching privately in 2010 and have helped students of all ages prepare for their exams (grades 1 to 8), auditions and other performances. Most of my students are long-term students and have been learning with me for 3-4 years, with some up to 6 years. I take great pride in their success and they have had a 100% success rate in the ABRSM exams. In addition to teaching privately, I have also taught in various primary schools in the London Borough of Newham (including in Winsor and Park primary schools), teaching violin to small groups of students in Years 5 and 6 (4th and 5th Grade) to take steps 1, 2 and grade 1 in the ECAM programme created by the London College of Music and the University of West London. I believe in teaching fundamental principles of technique that can be applied universally, and I encourage students to focus on one basic idea at a time. Scales, arpeggios, etudes and other exercises are an important part of daily practice, reinforced by weekly technique classes. I am a performing violinist, however I am most passionate about teaching and also playing chamber music. I began my musical studies playing the piano at age 7 and the violin at age 9. As a youth, I served as concertmaster of the South Bay Youth Symphony, Azusa Pacific Symphony Orchestra and Texas Christian University Symphony Orchestra. Before anything, I find out what the goal of the lesson is. I always want to know what the students want, so I can plan around them. The lesson will always be about the student! After discussing the goal of the lesson, we will find repertoire, etudes, or other materials that either benefit the student technically, or will simply be enjoyable to the student. Since the goal of the student can either be anything, including playing professional recitals, or simply playing a Taylor Swift song from the radio, my priority will be that the student is enjoying their craft. My teaching style is all about getting the student to love music! There is nothing else that will be a greater and more honest motivator than loving what they are doing. Singing, games and dancing are great when the little ones get distracted or discouraged. I make sure to let everyone know that music isn't easy; it's hard and takes a lot of hard work and practice.
