I approach piano and violin instruction from a foundational, constructive perspective, combined with building rapport and reciprocal clarifying communications. Essentially this means that the student and I interact to build understanding by using the familiar to grasp the unfamiliar. An example is: When teaching hand position, I use the natural position the student already has when the hand is relaxed to build the hand playing position. The student is encouraged to ask questions, to feel free to make mistakes in order to take the risks necessary for true understanding and growth, and to engage in productive discussion leading to personal clarity with regard to their playing. I have consistently been teaching students in my home for the past 7 years and never want to stop! My goal with each student is to teach the fundamentals of the violin/viola, and especially how to practice in an organized way. I want my students to gain their own love for the instrument and be inspired daily by music. My students are required to practice daily and perform often. I want each student to walk away from lessons feeling like a better, more educated, and excited person. Read More

Some of my earliest memories are from learning how to read music. I've been involved in piano and violin for most of my life, beginning both early in elementary school. I studied privately for roughly ten years under various instructors while in school. My instruction consisted mostly of solo performance pieces, but I was fortunate to be able to enjoy many years in the Idaho Falls Youth Symphony as well as experience the Idaho All-State Orchestra and the Teton Chamber Orchestra. I started teaching over ten years ago. I have taught several amazing violin and piano students ages 4-16 over the years. In my experience, I've found that the Suzuki Violin method books work very well for private lessons but can teach other methods. I have a degree in violin performance and play the piano as well. I've also taught 4th-12th grade orchestra in Arizona and Utah. Please contact me to have a trial lesson for yourself or your child. Read More

Hi! My name is Lauryn L. and I am 19. Right now I go to BYU, and I am studying Viola Performance. I started viola in 6th grade and have been playing ever since. From 10th grade to 12th grade I went to the Gifted Music School Conservatory in SLC. I graduated from there last year. I have been able to work with many professional musicians through this music school. My favorite memories from my music experience so far was playing in Abravanel Hall with the Lyceum Philharmonic Orchestra, and playing 2 outdoor concerts at Thanksgiving Point Ashton Gardens with them as well. Practice, and be positive! If done correctly, this can be a very enjoyable time. Listening is essential, and it's not just a little bit of listening. When we learn to speak, we hear words around us almost 24/7. We must create a learning environment. I don't think I can emphasize listening enough. I encourage the following as a minimum: - Listen to your current piece at least 2 times a day. This may only be 5-10 minutes at first but will increase as pieces become longer. - Listen to as much good classical music as possible and introduce you and your family to some of the greatest classical literature!
