Practice makes perfect. I ask students to practice as often as possible, no matter the skill level. I prefer students to start practice with scales and warm-up drills, then move on to composed pieces. Along with practice, I hope that students will not only play, but listen to their music, such as the Suzuki method. The more familiar students are with the different pitches in a song, the better they will be able to adjust their performance to correctly match. Read More

Hello, my name is Juan C. and I have been playing the cello for over a decade! My musical career has led me to perform on vast amounts of stages in addition to working alongside countless students to further their own musical journeys. For the past five years I have had the privilege of studying under Professor David Bjella at the University of Central Florida; my time at UCF has allowed me to find a true passion for teaching. I like to begin the first lesson by recognizing the students strengths by having them show me what they can accomplish on their own. There are specific books that I like to teach out of depending on the skill level so that needs to be addressed during the first lesson. Recognizing and building on strengths to me should come before criticising weaknesses. Those will be addressed as they come along and exercises with scales and etudes will be chosen for those weaknesses, but that does not mean that challenging music needs to be played each and every time so that the student has to struggle for greatness. I am a Venezuelan violinist who grew up in "El Sistema", which has let people learn to love music, and has given the opportunity to less resourceful kids to make music through dedication and team work. In 2002 I joined my city's orchestra, the "Ciudad Guayana" orchestra in Venezuela. I played both first and second violin throughout my 16 years of being there. We performed challenging repertoire such as Scheherazade, Mahler, Shostakovich, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven. Read More

For students who are just beginning I start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. I personally have worked through this text and I find it more than appropriate for the beginning violinist. As we progress we will graduate to the Suzuki Method books Volume 1. For intermediate students, I will assess the skill level and work from there. To keep learning fun and amusing, I will introduce music of my student's choice. Read More

My methods fall into 4 categories: 1) Essential Technique- Students will learn the basics from the Essential Elements books, Etude books such as Wolfahrt and Dont, and customized materials 2) Music Theory and History- Students will learn note reading, key signatures, scales and arpeggios, intervals, rhythm and music history through customized materials and games 3) Solo- Students will choose solos from the Suzuki violin/viola series, or another skill-appropriate solo 4) Ensemble- Once the student has basic familiarity with his or her instrument, I will find them an appropriate ensemble opportunity such as youth orchestra, All-County/All-State Orchestra, adult community orchestra or chamber music Read More
Instruments: Piano Violin Viola
I like teaching and performing music. There is nothing better than when I learn to play the piece well. Also-when I teach the beginning student-it is great to see how that student develops his/her playing over the days/weeks/months. It is good to have constant attention of the teacher because of learning to play the pieces in correct way is very important. The correct playing will help the student to achieve even higher goals-that is to play both melodically and technically more difficult. Read More
