I started teaching in high school. At Santa Monica High School, we had a huge music program. With 6 orchestras in making up the music program, I was placed in the orchestra made up of the most advanced players. I volunteered my time every week at the request of our orchestra director to giving lessons to students placed in the beginning and intermediate orchestras. Pieces of music are normally chosen from a huge selections of violin literature or from Suzuki books. Students show very good progress in a short period of time, and they are very soon able to produce beautiful sounds from their instruments, accurate intonation, strong vibrato, correct rhythm, and great musicality. They develop a positive attitude towards the acquisition of the art of violin playing, and look at the learning process as a fun experience, especially when they are exposed to a new piece of music, whether it is a simple song such as Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star or  a major composition such as the violin concerto by Beethoven or Wieniawski. My teaching is heavily influenced with my background and experience with the Suzuki method, particularly pertaining to listening, repetition, and immersion. Music is something to practice as if learning another language, as it is another form of expression! Although I use Suzuki books and repertoire in my lessons, I structure and customize lessons plans, tailoring to each individual student.
