For very young beginning students, I usually start with Shirley Givens' Adventures in Violinland. After some time, I like to switch to the Suzuki books to encourage training their ears. Each student is very different, and I cater and switch method books based on each student's individual need. For all ages, I encourage them to listen to violinists they enjoy on YouTube, and choose pieces they want to learn. Even if what they choose is a challenge, I believe they will be more inspired to work hard to learn the piece if they chose it. Read More

I recently graduated from the Mannes School of Music in New York City with a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance, studying with Rebecca Fischer. I grew up in Northern Virginia and started the violin and piano when I was 3 years old. Paganini's 4th Violin Concerto with cadenza which Oleg Rutkovsky composed especially for this event. After competition he was invited to participate in music festival in Rimini, Italy where he shared the stage with such famous musicians as Boris Berezovsky (1st Prize 1990 P.I.Tchaikovsky Piano Competition), Enrico Pace and Evgeny Bushkov (both winners of many international competitions). After one year with State Symphony Capella of Russia where conductor was legendary Gennady Rozhdestvensky and where Oleg performed in section 1st Violins in 1992 he accepted position of Assistant concertmaster of famous Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra and traveled around the globe performing in almost every important music hall including Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall in New York, Royal Albert and Barbican Hall in London, Beethoven Hall in Bonn (Germany), Gewandhaus, Symphony Hall and Suntory Hall in Tokyo and Osaka (Japan), Musikverein Golden Hall  in Vienna and many more. As a soloist, I was a prizewinner of the Nova Vista Young Artist Concerto Competition and winner and soloist with the KAMSA Youth Orchestra and Texas Christian University Symphony Orchestra. I have appeared in recitals throughout Berlin, Germany and in master classes with Dorothy DeLay, Donald Weilerstein, Brian Lewis, Ruggiero Ricci, and the Tokyo String Quartet. I am a classically-trained violinist and composer, with a passion for teaching music to children and adults of all ages and levels. I received my Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from Indiana University, and subsequently received a scholarship to continue my studies in Paris. Over the years, I have contributed to several non-profit and El Sistema-inspired music programs, in both North and South America. My first teaching job was in Colombia, where I taught violin and directed youth orchestras, and I have gone on to teaching a wide range of music classes in Chile, Brazil, New York City, Paris, and in Austin, Texas. With all my students, I like to first figure out their goals and tailor our lessons to match each individuals aspirations. For every singer I will assign various vocal exercises to practice each week. We also will work on sight-reading exercises to encourage a high level of musicianship.
