I grew up as a "military brat" and then served in the Marine Corps. Moving to many different states and overseas countries has made me more well-rounded and appreciative of cultures. I developed a greater appreciation for music, proving it as a universal language among people holding diverse traditions. Some things I enjoy doing: teaching kids of all ages at church, creating things with carpentry/woodworking, producing artwork, reading, and going to the beach. Read More

After college, where I acquired extensive experience as a performer, I decided to dive into teaching. I am a fairly new teacher (six months experience), and it has been quite exciting to formalize my methods as I find the style that best suits me and my students. What I have learned most in my time teaching is the importance of games, challenges, and performance opportunities to keep learning fun and to motivate students to strive for that next level. During my time teaching at Dillard as a student myself, it was then that I realized that I am really passionate about teaching music. In 2019, I began my college journey at Florida International University and became a Communications major; however, I did not want to stop studying the violin. El Sistema is a system that helps underserved communities get the music knowledge they would otherwise not be able to get. We had different levels of orchestras, from beginners to advanced. Starting in 2013 I started teaching violin lessons for the beginners while I kept playing for the advanced orchestra. Read More

I teach the basics first. I show my student how to hold the bow and the violin in detail. I explain that it will be awkward to hold the bow in correct position because it is unusual for person to hold the right hand that way. After several days of practice, this bow hold will become more natural to the student. Holding the violin in the proper position is also important in order to be able to play music. Read More

For any student, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements series. This method book will help teach the basic fundamentals needed to progress on the instrument. For children, I will continue through the method book series while supplementing it with short popular pieces that may be of interest to the student. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep it fun and enjoyable. Read More
