I like to encourage to all my students to practice technique every day because consider that it will give them flexibility with the instrument. Also, I will stimulate them to find out the beauty, complexity and the appropriate interpretation of the repertoire that they are playing. The repertoire depends of student's level and their desire of improve. When I teach children I like to develop games during the lesson so they can have and learn at the same time. Read More

Following this, we'll engage in some singing with scale degrees (numbers) i.e. 1, 1-2-1, 1-2-3-2-1 etc. It's another fun way to work on aural skills. I'll then proceed to take them through some basic foundation building technical scales and repertoire. For Intermediate students, the breathing and technical work is more advanced, I include aural studies like intervals signing and recognition and perhaps modes of major scale then we'll sing through their chosen repertoire. I basically teach as I've been taught by the masters. There are musical essentials that must be mastered for every musician, with no exceptions. By completing one level of proficiency one moves on to the next level, and so on. Eventually students are able to grow to become masters themselves. This has always been the case throughout history, and in all fields for that matter. Never allow yourself to get bogged down by futility; there is always another way. Read More

We set goals based on aspirations and ability. That said, my lessons are structured, but flexible, rigorous, but fun. I encourage regular practice times, include practice plans, and talk with students about how to practice. Frequently, students determine the flow of the lessons - what we emphasize or de-emphasize. We also talk quite a bit about what the student finds interesting. Whenever possible, I use this to fine-tune my teaching to keep student progress steady and satisfying. Read More

I love teaching and sharing my passion of singing with my students. I, however, never want to pressure a student to go in one director or push them too far too fast. The best way to learn is at your own pace. I make vocal warm ups tailored to each students needs and I do encourage them to try these out at home. I also try to be there to the best of my ability for my students and encourage them to perform and progress. Read More

Based on a child's interest and personal voice, I recommend pieces of music varying from musical theatre, 28 Italian Songs, Schirmer's Book of Solos, and Hal Leonard's Standard Literature. In our lessons, I teach students to warm up with the proper technique, and so that they may warm themselves up when practicing. We also work on sight reading and dictation to implement musical literacy. Most importantly, we discuss textual meaning and how it relates to our performance skills. Read More

I have a tried and true set of vocal building exercises (also known as "warmups") that I use with all of my students. These exercises help to strengthen students middle voices, extend their ranges, increase their agility, and increase their stamina. I combine these exercises with carefully assigned repertoire to promote growth and functional freedom. I love to have my students sing in many different genres because our voices are muscles, and I believe that they should be cross-trained so one can be as versatile and flexible as possible. Read More
