I've taught lessons for a total of 8 years in New York City, Boston, and Midwestern Illinois. I've taught all kinds of students: children, teens, college students, adults, and retirees. Each student has come with their own goals and passions, and I enjoy helping each individual uncover, free, and develop the natural voice within. In addition to setting each student up with a solid vocal technique, I've taught basic music and vocal health to young children (ages 5-7), developed music reading skills in teens and young adults, helped retirees improve technically so they can better contribute to their community choirs, and even instructed a folk singer in improvisation, songwriting, and healthy folk vocal technique. We must educate them on what is great singing so they are attune on how to make intelligent comments and constructive criticisms for themselves and others. Students can learn so much about themselves just from listening and we must encourage it. Once a singer has found their voice, they must then learn to make music. Growing up with both Suzuki books and Hal Leonard Essential Elements books, those are what I prefer to use. Essential Elements, especially for string players, offers an incredible foundation for beginners. One thing I really love about those books is the use of scales from the start. As a college musician, you quickly learn the importance of scales. I place a high priority on scale practice as it is the foundation of all we play. Read More

One last thing that is important about me and my journey as a teacher is that I am a baritone. This is something I used to fight. I felt like I was being left out of the musical theatre scene because I couldn't sing as high as some of my tenor peers. I spent pretty much all of undergrad screaming in practice rooms trying to gain an upper range. Piano For beginning piano students who are children, I usually start with my own lesson sheets I composed. I also entertain kids by having them color and draw notes and scales. After being familiar with fundamentals, depending on students progress, I recommend them to study with Hal Leonard's or Alfred's. From (Mid) highschoolers to adults, I will start off with Ferdinand Beyer first then Czerny with a couple other supplementary.  Voice For children, I keep them interested with children's song and have them play along singing. I began teaching part time in September of 2015 with a handful of private students in Midtown Manhattan. This has since grown and I have worked with experience levels ranging from never-before-sung to moderately advanced students.
