My teaching experience starts off eight years ago. I started teaching close friends and relatives and realized I had a passion for singing. Im currently a singing teacher and a dance teacher currently with a studio. I teach whatever style the student is most interested in but I specialize in pop, rb, and musical theatre. In the first lesson, I listen very carefully to what the student wants to achieve and how they feel about the way they sing. Then, I begin my strategy of how to devise a skills building foundation based on their needs. After a few exercises, I can understand how quickly they can adapt and try new techniques. If one approach doesn't work, I try another way of explaining it. I also provide notes to reinforce what is discussed in the lesson so the student can retain new concepts. Read More

If students have an interest in learning popular styles, I make sure to incorporate reading jazz/pop symbols into their lessons. When students are able, I have them learn scales and key signatures. For my voice students, I find it most important to pick literature that will be healthy for students to sing, as well as enrich their vocal development. For younger students, I like to both work on folk songs and music theater, and appropriate popular music if they are interested. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I worked at this camp up until 2020; when the camp was shut down because of Covid. Since then, I have been teaching private voice and beginner piano lessons! I absolutely love setting up a plan for my private students, talking to them about their goals and where they want to take their music learning! I find it important to have structure in the lessons, as well as explaining the importance of practice and preparation. Read More

I usually find out the student's musical preferences and try to pick songs from that style, meanwhile, introducing them to classical music or folk music and helping them pick music to work on from that genre.  I follow a similar pattern with flute lessons. Depending on the experience of the student, lessons can begin a little more slowly than with the other two instruments since wielding the instrument is largely dependent hand size and length of arms!
