I began teaching voice over 5 years ago and have maintained a studio of singers varying in vocal style, age, and skill level. Each one has brought new challenges to me as a teacher and helped me home in on my teaching style and methods. If my students don't feel encouraged, practice on their own, or aren't having fun in lessons then I am not doing my job correctly! I like to find out what my student's goals are, and then I tailor the lessons to their needs. If my student is in high school and wants to apply to University for voice performance, I will make sure they start with the 26 Italian Arias, and we will also work on languages, since certain Universities require their singers to sing in French, Italian, German, English, and Spanish. If I have a student who wants to sing in musicals, we will work on show tunes and classic music theater music, but also classical music, as that is the foundation to all singing. Read More

When teaching strings to beginners I tend to teach out of a string methods book but I also offer stylistic direction outside of the book. I find this method helps the student with dependency of string books and helps to harbor curiosity to the vast world of music and methods beyond one book. Music and teaching it to others has been my life's work and passion. I am classically trained (obviously) and I am the first and still only person in my family to graduate from a four year college and later graduate school, having earned BM and MM degrees in Piano Performance with a minor in organ at Shenandoah University. In addition to 27 years of music ministry, 26 years as an accompanist and/or MD (classical and music theatre settings) and of course 16 years of private piano teaching, my greatest professional accomplishment is having played at Carnegie Hall in June 2014. My methods are based on life experience from studying with different teachers through out my career and being an AMDA graduate. I am very old school, meaning I expect them to memorize lyrics and lines, and understand what they are saying and why. I approach teaching as a teacher who still performs,and learned by doing it.
