In college at SMU, I studied finance, but quickly got a double in music, studying classical music under Alfred Mouledous (world renowned pianist) and focusing my free time on jazz. I work with each student in regard to his/her own singing goals- whether they be for therapy reasons, recreational/hobby, academic/school, or professional reasons. I customize lessons to include these goals and to work with the singer's strengths and weaknesses. Every lesson includes vocal warm-ups that are tailored to each singer's individual voice and gifts. Although my methods vary a bit depending on the instrument, the general plan is the same. For beginner students of instruments I focus first on fundamentals, such as finger placement, note names, what makes up chords so forth (again with a high emphasis on practice). I will gladly print out hard copies of chord sheets, note names, songs with chord markers if desired, or can display these digitally! For voice students, I teach basic breathing exercises and fun, sustainable and memorable warm-ups. From there, I begin to prep them for their first solo performances. I offer studio-wide performance opportunities for new and experienced students to show off their skills! As they progress, I teach to their interests and needs.
