I found myself teaching at a very young age, being hired as the accompanist for the Dominican High School Summer Theatre Camp. These campers ranged in age from 5-14. I have accompanied for the past six summers, and I eventually held the title of Lead Music Teacher. At school in Chicago, I did some vocal coaching of my peers. I have been singing since the age of 10 when she first began performing at some of her father’s piano concerts. Graduating from both Lawrence University and Alverno College, she studied vocal performance, music education, and French. My favorite vocal genres include Broadway, Classical, Pop, Light Opera, and Jazz. Throughout the course of my collegiate career, the main method/approach to singing that I have been taught and teach to my own students as well, is that of relying on proper air/breath support to do the "heavy lifting" in singing- NOT putting any stress or tension on your vocal chords! Therefore, my methods/practices consist largely of proper breathing exercises during warmups, but also selecting solo repertoire that focuses on building proper and healthy bridges between your chest/head voice, as to create a smoother, less-noticeable transition that also sustains your voice throughout the course of your singing career. It's my goal to engage students through music they already love, and (at the same time) introduce them to new music ideas and musical concepts/challenges.
