For brass instrumental students, I generally use the Rubank Method books, focusing on care of the instrument and basic fundamentals. For piano students I use a variety of different method books and am not tied down to any one series. We will also work on scales and the Hannon series For vocal students, I use a series of vocalises, scales and other exercises to strengthen the voice. I, however, focus mostly on technique and allow the student to do the necessary song preparations outside of the lesson (unless they are needing help). This gives them the ability to build their own characters and interpretations. This also pushes them to use the skills that they have and make them stronger.
