I like to promote a positive and encouraging atmosphere, whilst also providing constructive feedback during lessons. If there is something a student is having difficulty with, I look at various ways in which we can work to improve the situation. I like to keep lessons fun and engaging but am also very passionate and serious about singing, so my style is a healthy mix between the two. I graduated from Rutgers University in 2012 with a bachelors in Psychology and Theater Arts, and spent much of my time performing on stage in musicals and plays. My passion for singing dates back to when I was a child, singing in choirs and performing in churches. In 2011, I graduated from the Greatbach School of Music at Houghton College, earning a bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance with honors. I have been blessed to perform in several regional theatre productions, as well as two off-Broadway shows. I have brought my love of coaching and teaching to these productions. As a multi-instrumentalists, I use a cross disciplinary approach even when a student is only learning one instrument. I do make use of method books for beginners, and the specific book depends upon the instrument, but I have my own methods and materials which I utilize in my lessons. Building a repertoire is encouraged, and I use the material to assist in instructing in theory and musical communication. My students are taught to be self-sufficient, by way of practice, study, and cultivating an "ear." Read More
