My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time. I have been consistently teaching students since 2018. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. Many of my students were working professionals, so we would work on what they needed to learn whether it be a script or a song. Some had an audition coming up. so we focus on that. Non professional students will have goals as well We can put recital dates together, or a school program or show coming up. By trying to find out what inspires each student, I can customize their instruction to help develop a passion for their instrument. Nothing is more rewarding to see a student enjoy and become a confident musician! I allow each student to move at their own pace, but always challenging them so they do not become bored. My goal is to get you to not need me as quickly as possible. Every singer needs not one, but multiple coaches over their lifetime. While you may have 1 main coach, many Vocalist find the best way to not plateau in their development is to work with several coaches to keep improving. I look to find what inspires the student naturally, while striving to open the student's mind to new styles through understanding new patterns. I set tangible goals that help the student measure their success; I make sure the goals are both realistic for their pace and also pushing them to their fullest extent. Strong vocal development is rooted in an extensive understanding of healthy technique. Depending on the level and age of the student we will spend anywhere from a third to half of the lesson working on vocal exercises, which will aid in the student's foundation of developing a strong technical background. Each student learns in a different way so I tailor each lesson plan for that individual. I do have a format with teaching voice that follows tradition - we work on voice exercises and then repertoire. I use Hal Leonard, Alfred, and Mel Bay books for all instruments. Voice instruction is tailored to each student by taking their career goals, experience, and learning pace into consideration. Some things we will focus on are: vocal technique and correct breathing (the foundation), increasing vocal range, improving pitch and tone, vocal maintenance and endurance, stage performance and confidence, audition preparation, microphone technique, pre-production for studio recording and songwriting.
