I also music directed a male-voiced a cappella group, conducted a chamber choir, and music directed and accompanied several musical theater productions. I give each student the freedom to learn and prove to themselves just how wonderful they can be. I sit down with each student and parent, if the parent is coming with them, in the beginning and discuss with them the importance of practice and what it does to help with the learning process. Whenever I give a student a critique, I always begin by saying something positive they did. Then I explain the critique and how they can improve the next time. I want my students to feel like they have accomplished something, while knowing that there is always room for improvement. Positive reinforcement always keep the students motivated. As far as repertoire goes, I allow my students to pick their own music while incorporating my suggestions for repertoire to learn. Read More
