I really covered this in the above information,so continuing in more detail,it really depends on each individual student,their level of ability and age that determine the course of study.It also depends on the instrument.Some instruments like piano,violin or viola,books are more practical because the music is notated.With most fretted instruments,music is written in tableture which was originally used for the lute and brought back i think in the 1970s.Its easier than reading music and is more practical for those instruments. For every one of my beginning students who wants to start playing the guitar or singing, I will alway start them off the best and most knowlegable way I know how, which would be a beginners guide. I believe that it is the teacher duty not only to impart the wisdom expected of them, but to also guide the students in their academic endeavors. While I understand that each and every student is unique in their learning and progress, I will always strive to push my students forward and sometimes out of their comfort zones as to be better performers, better musicians, and better people. My methods are based on life experience from studying with different teachers through out my career and being an AMDA graduate. I am very old school, meaning I expect them to memorize lyrics and lines, and understand what they are saying and why. I approach teaching as a teacher who still performs,and learned by doing it. My goal is to get you to not need me as quickly as possible. Every singer needs not one, but multiple coaches over their lifetime. While you may have 1 main coach, many Vocalist find the best way to not plateau in their development is to work with several coaches to keep improving.
