My approach to teaching is fun and nurturing, making sure students have a clear understanding of the fundamental principles of music, while encouraging individual student's own creativity and aural skills.I always inspire students to enjoy music and their musical instrument whilst developing their discipline to build self-esteem and help them grow socially and academically. During my lessons students work on their sight reading, technique, ear training and,of course I come up with fun musical games for younger beginners. Read More

My beginning students usually start with Hal Leonards Essential Elements, Accents on Achievements, Do It Play In Band, and much more. Once my student is able to grasp basic fundamentals and a healthy proper tone and technique, I will then be able to incorporate solo repertoire for future recitals and contests. For adults, I will find out what interests my students and coordinate my lessons accordingly to keep the lesson engaging and fun. Read More

I incorporate a variety of method books and approaches to learning music, believing that there is no one method for every student. For piano, my favorite methods are Faber and Faber's Piano Adventures, but I enjoy utilizing supplemental material from a variety of genres. Read More

I do my best to tailor my style to each students specific needs and goals. In general, I am a very laidback and patient teacher. My students recieve clear and achievable goals at the end of each of their lessons to work on while they are practicing during the week. This enables students to be able to really see their own progress as the practice. I also believe in music lessons being an enjoyable experience for students so I include students in making the decision for what pieces they would like to learn. Read More

I like to equate learning any musical instrument to being a batter in baseball. The best batters still strike out, but when they hit that sweet spot, boom! Learning music isn't just about learning to play an instrument, but to develop yourself and your brain. I used to tell the kids in my music theater program, that they are the cream of the crop in school for taking a risk and showing themselves to the world. Read More

I believe that each students is at a different level so you have to tailor everything based on that. I believe that reading music is extremly important in the development of singing as well as enjoying music. I believe that each student should know key signatures as well as what notes are on and off the staff. For all students I focus on the following: Breath, Correct Vowel Placement. I believe that if you have solid breath foundations then you can produce purer vowels and in turn if you have purer vowels then you have longer lasting and easier breath production. Read More

I began teaching private lessons during my summers off from college, just a few students at a time.  Since beginning my teaching career, my focus has shifted slightly to group piano classes, while still teaching privately after school.  I have been a student of private instruction since the age of three, and my experiences in my private lessons have shaped the way I structure my own lessons for students.  I firmly believe that my students need to not only study solo repertoire, but also that they spend some time every week focusing on technical exercises to solidify their musical foundation.
