For a beginning student on guitar, I have them learning notes from a Hal Leonard, Mel Bay, or Alfred starter book. All these books are great, but I believe it depends on the individual student and how they learn. I also teach tab to beginners. I feel it is important to read tabs these days as well as notes. I teach based on what is best suited for the learner. All students learn differently and at different speeds. Students will be able to choose repertoire and learn technique through the music they love. Students are encouraged to discuss the music that they are interested in, their goals, and interests. I teach both voice and guitar. As an instructor of voice I start with Breathing exercises, posture, and ear training. I take methods from "The Singing Book" by Maribeth Dayme Cynthia Vaughn. With children, I gage how well their grasping the fundamentals before learning songs. Once we've gotten their we move forward to learning about different techniques. For young students, I would usually start them off using Bastien Piano Basics. It's very digestible, and gives a good starting-off point for both technical playing, and larger musical concepts as a whole. With a student who is older or perhaps more advanced, who has a solid grasp on technical proficiency and music theory, I would typically recommend studying specific pieces, starting with Classical, and eventually moving into Jazz. I feel that following a chronological study of music is one of the best ways to become a well-rounded, versatile player who feels comfortable approaching any material. Read More

I love to perform, but I also love to work with students by sharing my musical journey. The best people I can share my passion are always my students. After I graduated at Manhattan School of Music, I have made my debut as Mezzo soloist in Mozart’s Coronation Mass at Lincoln Center Avery Fisher Hall in New York , as well as Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy at Carnegie Hall. A twelve-year-old student who wants to write songs, and sing Taylor Swift, will need a very different approach than a fifty-year-old opera singer.
