I began teaching voice lessons during my vocal pedagogy class, while getting my Masters Degree. I have been teaching consistently for a total of seven years. I began teaching for acommunity school for the arts in Muncie, IN. One year after graduating from KD Conservatory, I moved to the Philippines and started my own original band called Alchemy Band. We performed several times a week at local venues. Most of the band members were full-time college students and due to the overwhelming workload, some of the members could no longer keep up with performance demand. I was simultaneously performing with a well-known girl-group called SILK Party Band and eventually became a full-time member performing "Top 40" hits from the 70's to current, 6-7 times a week all over the Philippines. I'm fairly new to teaching. I had the opportunity to co-lead the soprano section in my university choir for a year, which gave me my first taste of what teaching other people was like. I loved it, because it allowed me to step into something bigger than myself: helping other people learn how to sing together well! For beginners, I like to start with the Standard of Excellence book 1, and intermediate students with book 2. The trombone is such a versatile instrument that there are tons of different styles of playing to practice. Depending on the student's level I will build curriculum for them. There will be bi-weekly master classes that students have the option of attending to perform for other students, and learn from watching (This is a big learning tool). But as I said it is optional. The student will always be working toward their goal while enriching their musical taste.  I really enourage live performance, and will provide ample performance opportunities. Nothing is more rewarding then seeing my student progress and overcome the difficulties of starting to play an instrument. Furthermore, it is very important that each one of my students progresses at their own pace. That being said, I encourage progression by setting realistic goals depending on the student's level. In addition, I create the students curriculum based on the styles of music students prefer as to keep their interest while giving them useful knowledge and techniques for any situation involving playing, improvising, or musical comprehension.
