My specialty is Rock music. It's my passion, my love and my lifestyle. To learn Rock really well, I also cover the basics of some different styles that I believe are important to know such as Blues, Jazz, Classical and Metal. I believe a musician needs to be versatile and open-minded in order to progress and become fluent in the instrument. These are some of the music theory and techniques I teach: Scales - Major and minor modes ( Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian and Locrian) Pentatonic Scales - Harmonic minor and Melodic Minor among other exotic scales Chord formation and progessions for all styles- Pull-off, Hammer on, legato, tremolo picking, finger-tapping, Arpeggios, string skipping,etc.. I have a very patient and laid back personality which I think benefits most students. The last thing a student wants to feel is pressure from their teacher to perform up to the teacher's standards. Everyone has a different idea of success and this also translates in the world of music. Some want to become world-class virtuosos, while others want to simply enjoy playing music for their personal fulfillment. Neither path is right or wrong and I will work with all of my students to maximize their particular goals. Read More

During the first lesson, I have a short discussion with the student to see what their goals are. I also ask what about music interests them. I then ask them to perform anything of their choice to assess their ability level (if applicable). After that, I tell them what immediately needs to be addressed and how this will work with their longterm goal. Then, based on their progress, we set benchmark goals that are adjusted according to their pace. Read More

I am a working professional double bassist in the Chicago area. I was introduced to music lessons at an early age playing piano and then later introduced to bass, later picking up guitar as well. I have performed with numerous orchestras and bands over the years, most recently with the Illinois Symphony Orchestra. In addition to Orchestral and Jazz playing, I have spent time composing and writing my own music. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my high school days, continued throughout my college experience, and is my current part time job at numerous music schools. I use a combination of determining where the student is currently at, areas the student wants to to improve, and my own profession assessment of where a great place for the student to begin would be in our lessons. Every student learns differently, so that's why he adapts to all situations and ensures his students are given the tools and knowledge they need in order to reach their full musical potential. I have a deep love for music, and one of the ways that I express that is through teaching! I primarily teach drums and percussion, which has been my main focus since 2011 when I entered high school. From there, I began a path that led me to Millersville University and NYU, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music Business Technology and a Master of Music degree in Percussion Studies respectively. I use what some have called the target approach. With this method you are working on one concept at a time, and you should always have one concept in mind while you practice. Some examples of beginning concepts are 1) keeping a steady beat, 2) sound quality, or 3) smooth finger technique. In one practice session using the target approach you may spend 10 minutes on target 1) and 15 minutes on target 2). What is important, however, is that you continue to work on a target every day until you find yourself performing that single concept flawlessly and effortlessly. Read More
