Hi, my name is Max. I graduated CSULB with a degree in Music Education. My main instruments is the violin but I enjoy playing and teaching most of the band and orchestra instruments. I am a string specialist (Violin, Viola Cello and Bass) but I also teaching flute, clarinet, saxophone, oboe, trumpet, trombone and piano. I've found that keeping an open mind about methods is really helpful when dealing with beginning students, young and old. I've tought from various method series including Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, Emily Wright's A Modern Cellist's Manual, Muller Rusch, and more. While I'm not a certifited Suzuki instructor, I do teach from the Suzuki method when students or parents request it. When receiving a student I first like to get to know the student by friending them. Asking question as to what their likes are and just getting to know them. For the beginner we start of with a Method book that fits their age and personaity and go from there. I believe it is important to have a solid knowledge of theory and note reading- If the student has this foundation then they are able to grow quite quickly as musicians.
