Hello, my name is Jordan and I've been a professional touring musician and music teacher for the last 16 years. I have a degree in Music Performance from GA State University (Saxophones-Jazz Studies). During my undergrad I took several years of classical lessons with Atlanta’s best saxophonist-Sam Skelton, as well as several years of jazz performance. During my time in Atlanta I was introduced to many great players! Including my good friend Coy Bowles, current member of the Zac Brown Band. Read More

I have had the privileged of working with many successful musicians. After studying the way they taught me and other students, I feel that the best lesson plans are ones that are catered to the individual student. It is important to know what the student wants to accomplish, then build a lesson plan from there. For a beginning student, we start with essential fundamentals, for a more advanced student, I would guide my instruction based on the student goals. Read More

One of my greatest joys have always been to see my students make progress and express how happy they are with themselves after working hard, and this is one of my greatest motivations to teach and give teaching all that I've got. As a private studio instructor, I encourage my students to keep detailed notes of our lessons and record their practice sessions and discoveries in that same note book for this helps with organization and focus, thus eliminating the need for aimless practicing and playing of ones instrument. I am a nurturer. I teach with caring, passion and support of all my students. It's not just enough show students how to play a note or read a rhythm, but how to use that knowledge in everyday life. I like to build a positive working relationship with my students. This way they look forward to their lesson, not only because they are comfortable around me, but because they are growing and learning about music and it's relationship to life. Read More

No matter what, I try to foster personal artistry as a primary goal for my students. That means that they should leave my lessons with one step closer to playing the type of music they want, whether it's in a band class or on stage with a jazz group. I start by teaching the fundamentals and making sure that the student has basic competency in the instrument and in general music knowledge to begin creating music by themselves. Read More

I have lead others and taught them before ever having my own classroom as a leader in High School and College. It has greatly pleased me that my students have had many accomplishments in many groups. These vary from various Honors Bands, the Atlanta Youth Symphony Orchestra, and many High Valued Scholarships. I ecourage regular practice for all my students to review and refine their musicianship overall. I am always looking for new and exciting opportunities to teach those who are interested. Read More

There are many acceptable method books for beginning students, however, I have found that if a student gets relatively comfortable on their instrument before trying to decipher a grand staff, they seem to enjoy the learning experience more. The hardest part of teaching music, in my opinion, is the educational content that isn't in a method book. Finding someone who can play your instrument better than you can often be more inspirational than finding a new piece that is slightly out of your comfort zone or using a method book that, at the end of the day, is supposed to help a student reach the ability level of the person the student aspires to be.
