I am a professional musician and educator with a passion for sharing what I have learned with others. I have had a wide array of opportunities to study, perform, and work within the music industry, and I want to communicate the tools I have found useful in those endeavors. I hold a BM in Education from University of New Hampshire and a MM in Performance from New England Conservatory of Music. Read More

My name is Luke V. and I am a Music Composition Major with a focus in Classical Guitar performance at SUNY Fredonia. I have been playing guitar and writing music for over a decade and playing drums for a little shy of a decade. I've performed in many small local concerts in the Suffolk County area as well as in upstate New York on the SUNY Fredonia campus. I've composed for many small ensembles including the Sewanhaka Highschool's concert band and a string quintet that I put together myself! Read More

I've been teaching private lessons since 2010, as well as teaching in studios and doing workshops for children. I encourage my students to work toward their goals and always practice! As a practicing musician you are in control of your own destiny! A major reason I became a musician was to be able to create and in order to create you must have the tools to do so. Taking private lesson will help you gain those tools and give you more motivation to keep going! Read More

Because every student has his/her own learning style, my lessons cater to those styles. I figure out a student's strengths and weaknesses. I acknowledge the accomplishments caused by the strengths while I focus on developing the weaknesses. For example, if a student excels melodically but has trouble maintaining accurate rhythm, I will engage the student in listening to and playing many interesting melodies that require him/her to pay close attention to counting the rhythms in order to master playing the melodies. Effective music education is both developmentally and culturally appropriate: By working with the student to understand their interests, I hope to provide them with an experience that will enrich their musical and social life outside of the work we do together. Through infancy, I believe Music Learning Theory is effective for developing musical and linguistic skills. If a student in toddlerhood/childhood shows that they have a preferred way to express themselves musically, I will tailor lessons around the Kodaly (voice), Orff (instrumental), or Dalcroze (dance) philosophies. I teach because I love imparting knowledge and making connections in this way, and because I love the fundamental building blocks of musicianship and music theory. I have found that with careful attention to a student's character, the possibilities for learning are boundless. I like to let love guide the process, in the sense that I observe carefully the kinds of sounds that a student is fond of, and attempt to structure their learning in a way that empowers them to make those sounds. I teach all of my students how to read music as well as play by ear. I think both things are important. I focus on both technique and playing musically. Dynamics are something that many drummers ignore. To truly be a good drummer you must listen to the other instruments around you. Read More
