In the first lessons, I explain the the beginner students the basic functionality of the instruments, the proper way to hold the instruments, how to produce a clear sound from the instruments and a Major scale ascending and descending, the one from which the first lessons or the next lessons is written. I do this by setting goals for the current lesson as well as goals for their next lesson. For children and other beginners, I would start our lessons by encoding the basic function of music theory application of a drum pad. This will allow stick control and muscle memory to begin developing. As the beginner becomes more of a novice, I will introduce simple and repetitive songs and go over them as whole pieces. Those who are experienced in percussion, I will have them show me all of the rudiments they know, any complete pieces they have memorized, and have 5 minutes of improvisation. Read More
