Hello! I am a 22-year-old drummer and graduate of Belmont University's School of Music. I've been playing drums for the last 12 years all while playing local shows, touring, and teaching others how to do the same thing. I'm originally from a small town in rural southern Minnesota where I was in the marching band, jazz bands, and choirs as well as playing in a touring band with my friends. For a beginning student on voice or drums, fundamentals will be incorporated into their warm-ups each lesson and throughout the week. Each student has a reason for wanting to take lessons and incorporating that into the lessons will give the student more drive to practice. Beginning students can learn their favorite songs or styles of music, while getting a basic foundation in rudiments and syncopation. Advanced students can structure the lesson in a way they would find the most beneficial to their playing style and interests. I like to find out what a student's interests are and build off that. My teaching does not cut corners. I often tell young students to watch the movie "Karate Kid" and play close attention to the "Wax on, wax off" scenes. (Fortunately, there are practice supplements using play along tracks that make this process more fun and less tedious). I not teach "songs", but I do teach the language of drumming and the language of music. I am an advanced reader and all of my students will be required to read at least some music, however I do understand that many students learn by ear. Read More

My method of teaching involves a musically comprehensive approach. Through practice in rhythm, harmony, melody, theory and ear training, my players become well rounded musicians. The goal is to be able to have an intelligent musical conversation with your instrument, and to know how to play whatever you want to play. My method involves a mixture of exercises and musical application. It is important for our development as musicians to understand what we are doing on both a technical and mechanical level. However, it is equally important to keep what we are doing relatable to the music that we want to play. Keeping lessons fun and engaging is a big part of seeing results.
