I started teaching music about 10 years ago, and Ive always enjoyed working with students. Ive performed professionally in several bands on multiple instruments in the past 10 years, and Ive also done a good bit of studio work from composition and recording, to producing, to mastering. I emphasize practice, having fun, and learning useful skills as the keys to success in music lessons. My teaching does not cut corners. I often tell young students to watch the movie "Karate Kid" and play close attention to the "Wax on, wax off" scenes. (Fortunately, there are practice supplements using play along tracks that make this process more fun and less tedious). I not teach "songs", but I do teach the language of drumming and the language of music. In college at SMU, I studied finance, but quickly got a double in music, studying classical music under Alfred Mouledous (world renowned pianist) and focusing my free time on jazz.
