Being able to teach others and share my knowledge is what drives me, so I like to see progress. I have a goal-oriented approach that differs depending on the individual, but the results are always there. I love feeling the satisfaction of a student learning. Not to mention the relationships that are built and how much I learn from them in turn! It truly is a give and take relationship, just another individual sharing experience and knowledge. Read More

I deploy a range of methods to ensure my students can play in a multitude of environments if they so choose. For instance, I always teach my students how to read, not only because it makes you a better musician and trains your brain how to think differently about music, but because it enables you to be able to play with groups that require a certain level of reading such as a pit band for a musical, an orchestra, a jazz band, choral gigs, etc. Read More

Beginning students can learn their favorite songs or styles of music, while getting a basic foundation in rudiments and syncopation. Advanced students can structure the lesson in a way they would find the most beneficial to their playing style and interests. I like to find out what a student's interests are and build off that. I love to go in different directions and I want to teach students what they want to learn! Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has started to grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I do try to maintain a balance of classical music, modern music, and music theory. Read More

Teaching is a passion of mine. Getting to share experiences with my students is truly rewarding and I know it is something I will pursue for the rest of my life. My teaching style is enthusiastic and engaging. I beleive no single approach or method works for every student and having the ability to adapt is an essential skill for developing lasting student/teacher relationships. I accomplish this with each student by underlining expectations through short term, mid term, and long term goals. Read More

can teach from any book the student is interested in, but if he or she is unsure where to begin, I recommend the following. For basic snare drum technique, I teach out of "Alfred's Drum Method Book One," as well as printing out a page of all 40 essential rudiments for each student; I would teach these as the student progresses. For beginner drum set, I teach out of "Alfred's Beginning Drum Set Method," as well as playing along to songs the student picks out; this is truly the best way to improve on the instrument. Read More
