In high school I won two downbeat awards for best pop/rock drummer (2004) and outstanding performance for jazz drumming (2005). In high school I played in various touring groups, and started Berklee in 2009. For the beginner, we will spend the first two or three lessons working on proper grip and motion. Once that is mastered, we will use the Maroni book and use the first page of Stick Control. Each student has a reason for wanting to take lessons and incorporating that into the lessons will give the student more drive to practice.
