I have been playing drums for thirty years, and teaching drums to all ages of students for about twenty. I started playing drum set at the age of five, took regular private lessons from many teachers, took every music class available at school, and made District Honor Band seven years. I marched on my high school's snare line for four years and was Drum Captain for two. The first thing I do when teaching a student is to learn what musical goals and aspirations the student may have. Then, depending on age and experience, I build a custom program for the student, which may include using various books, resources, and even materials which I have created. From beginners to professionals we help drummers refine their technique, learn a variety of rudiments and how they apply those to fills and grooves, in addition to helping them to gain 4 way independence. I also like to integrate learning styles of music and songs that my students want to learn from artists or bands they may like.
