Instruments: Drums

As far as drumming goes, I believe in the same tenets that were taught to me; start with the basics and core and work your way up. For drums that means rudiments, stick technique and snare basics (books like "Stick Control" -George Stone). But lessons are not a slow grind that maybe one day build up to a full drum set. I was taught (and teach) in a way which mainly focuses first on these essentials (reading, technique etc.), but also incorporates the rest of the drum-set and playing along with other instruments and music. I began teaching when I was in high school, working with an organization in my local community that provided affordable lessons to those who can not afford the high prices of private music instruction. I continued teaching privately during college, and began working in classroom settings the past three years. My experience with directing ensembles, as well as teaching private lessons, has led me to develop a strong curriculum that provides students with meaningful and relevant experiences. Read More

I have been teaching drums and music for over 10 years now, and I have truly fallen in love with it. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a student progress and achieve their goals on the drum set or in their musical pursuits. I approach each lesson with a balance of structure and flexibility, tailoring the lesson plan to the individual needs and goals of the student. I believe in building a foundation grounded in technique and relaxation, while also encouraging creativity and self-expression. Read More

I have been drumming and performing music for nearly 30 years. I started out playing by ear at 5 years of age and shortly after received professional lessons. I became interested in a diverse variety of musical genres that grew as I did. I was very lucky to have two supportive parents, Bryan and Deborah who noticed my talents and nurtured them at a very young, impressionable age, introducing me to different instruments and live music. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Thank you for taking the time to read this I look forward to working with you. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
