I am a 33 year old New York based professional drummer from Rome (Italy). I have been involved in music from a very early age, thanks to my father who sings and plays guitar, bass, piano, harmonica and drums. Music for me is a pure passion that became my job. As a teacher I try to pass that passion on to my students, helping them to find their own love of music, to have fun and eventually to do it professionally. Read More

My favorite moment is when the student hears himself or herself actually playing the beat or fill that I have been instructing. Reaching this point repeatedly keeps my students practicing and engaged in the process of learning drums. My teaching occurs both on the drumset and on the drum pad. Regular use of the drum pad builds rudimentary skills, grip and forearm strength, and patience and listening skills, all of which are necessary to get where we want to go. Read More

This is my basic approach for getting a new student started at the drums. I like to start students out on the practice pad at first. This gives them a chance to focus on learning good technique and understanding basic musical notation. Starting out on a huge drumset is not only a little overwhelming, but there is only so much they can accomplish until they grasp the basics. Below is a general list of the things that will be covered in the first month or so for a newcomer to the drums. -Proper technical approach (grip, hand/ arm position, stroke) -Musical notation, note values (basic reading- quarter notes, eighth notes, triplets, rests, etc.) -Rolls (double stroke, single stroke, press) -Rudiments (flams, paradiddles, etc.) -Accents -Snare Drum Solos Various instructional books are used including- “Syncopation”, “Stick Control”, “Modern Reading, text in 4/4”, “Wilcoxin Book”, and more. I started teaching drums back when I was in High School, in France. Since then, I have had the chance to teach students from all ages and background. I love to adapt the different goals that different people can have. As long as my students are willing to have fun and open their ears, everything is achievable. I really encourage students to find out which songs/genre they enjoy and make them play along with music to recreate a live band playing experience. Read More

I tailor each lesson to the student’s needs and desires. I encourage all of them to develop reading, listening, coordination, and concentrating skills. I help each student to have the ability to play many different music styles and improvise in those styles. We work with developing the ear in order to play along with recorded music and teach them how to transcribe the songs so that they can document it for future use. Read More

Because everyone learns differently, I teach from a technique I've developed which I refer to as the blank slate method. Though I do utilize workbooks for their very informative and easy to understand nature, I prefer to teach each student based on what they know or what comes naturally to them. This involves you the student, your instrument, and a pen and paper. For beginner students who are children, we work together to learn a simple song so that they can feel a sense of accomplishment and be further motivated to continue their studies. Read More

Connection. I believe having a connection with the student is the most important factor. I strive to become close with all of my students. This way we can learn more efficiently while still having fun. I spend a small portion of lesson time getting to know my students and talking about what interests them. Sometimes, I'll take these interests and base the a lesson around it. While pushing the student to try new things, it's helpful to periodically take breaks and let the brain reset. Read More
