My teaching style is focussed very much on what the student wishes to learn. Having a set guide pf progression is necessary but not when forced upon. My style involves exploring music together, understanding the thought process behind different pieces of music and applying concepts in fun innovative ways. I have also designed many musical games that are fun and help students remember things better. With every student I put together a custom lesson plan that is designed to show yardsticks and milestones for the student in how they are moving forward with their instrument. Read More

Teaching the most basic concepts in how to build a chord or a scale by using formulas is my favorite way to approach the lesson. An individual's understanding of music is always changing therefore I feel it is better to change with them. Using methods which are proven is important, but the idea of improvisation during a lesson always keeps the interest for me and the student. Of course this depends completely on the age and the experience of a student. Read More

During the first lesson I always assess where the student is the learning timeline with their instrument. I also find out what the student's goals are with music. Once this has been established we work on a plan of action to acheive those goals. Since the vast majority of drum students are primarily interested in learning drumset skills, we will start working on this from the very first lesson. I tend to break drumset studies into these general groups: skills and technique, independence and coordination, groove studies, and reading. Read More

I try to see what skills the beginning learner may already have. Then I try to attach rudimentary skills to the players natural skill set. This is my basic approach. I teach both ear training and formal theory. I also examine popular music with students to keep techniques current with current trends in music. When teaching DAW production technique, I focus on tuning and refining a students, "production" ear or to instantly be able to refine a mix of music to a professional level. Read More

For all students I access what your musical background is and what may be lacking from your knowledge and playing. I also ask what your particular goals and things you would like to learn are. From there then we will start to tailor the lesson as both us see fit. In general I like a student to be able to play three simple melodies before moving on to chords, rhythms, and music theory. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

Ultimately, my goal is to make sure you enjoy yourself and want to keep coming back. In that process I will make sure you get results. I design my curriculum for each individual. This is because everyone has their own goals, there own level of ability, and their own needs as far as how to get there. I like to strike a balance of fun and functionality with my lessons.
